Punjab Kings will try to fulfil their ambition of winning the trophy in the upcoming season after doing some significant business in the IPL 2022 auction. With the start of the new season, PBKS is likely to be one of the few teams
that will enter the tournament with a nearly full revamp, with Mayank Agarwal taking over as captain. Instead of signing veteran Shikhar Dhawan in the auction, the club selected their retained opening batter to carry the squad.
Punjab are looking strong in theory for the first time since IPL 2014, as they have signed Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow, Kagiso Rabada, Liam Livingstone, and Shahrukh Khan, covering practically every base.
Speaking of the strength of the team, with Mayank, Dhawan, and Bairstow at the helm, Punjab have put together a strong batting squad this season. The trio has a lot of experience scoring big runs in tournaments and can alter gears quickly depending on the circumstances. Last season, Punjab's middle-order was a major source of concern, as it misfired frequently, resulting in the team finishing sixth in the points table. Punjab, on the other hand, have added some competent players such as Liam Livingstone, Odeon Smith, and Rishi Dhawan to help them get the job done this year. They've also rehired Shahrukh to complete the innings with some firepower.
Regardless of the signing Kagiso Rabada and Rahul Chahar, Punjab's bowling department appears to be behind the competition. Rabada will lead the effort with the ball, but if he gets injured, Punjab will be without a capable alternative. They brought in Nathan Ellis as the other overseas pacer, but his amount of IPL experience could backfire for PBKS, as it did with Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith the past season. PBKS has Anil Kumble as their coach, but they haven't done any spin recruiting, which has caused some concerns. The club hired Rahul Chahar as their strike spinner, but the second spinner's slot is still up in the air, as Livingstone is likely to play a significant part with the ball.
